How to get jade bonsai
Jade bonsai is a popular tree because you can enjoy gin and sushi rice and it is relatively easy to grow.
One of the reasons for its popularity is that it has a wide range of products, from mini bonsai to large bonsai. The price of the product is wide and the famous bonsai (some bonsai literally has a name) is worth more than tens of millions, and some people and groups are collecting it as a work of art.
It’s a dream story for a bonsai artist.
Jade, which I raised, may be passed on to my children and grandchildren and gradually increase in value.
On this site, we will tell you how to get and grow expensive bonsai at a reasonable price without introducing it.
Not only Amazon and Rakuten, which are famous for selling goods, but most of the sites that sell bonsai are available.
You can also get it from flea markets such as Mercari and Rakuma.
If there is a bonsai garden, bonsai market, or a gathering of enthusiasts nearby, you can buy it on the spot.
How to increase the size of jade bonsai
Jade introduced in the previous summary introduced how to grow from seedlings.
However, the mainstream method for many jade bonsai styles is to increase it with cuttings. (Layering is possible, but it takes time.)
I think there is a way to grow it from seeds, but I have never seen seeds unless it is planted in the ground and it is difficult for flowers to grow. (The ground-planted Jade flowers bloom around May, but I have never seen any seeds.)
Time of cuttings
The cutting season is around April, when the temperature rises and becomes stable.
The base cuttings are often taken from Jade, which has been raised for more than 6 years. I think that the cuttings taken from young trees have a low survival rate.
Time to artificially perform gin and rice
In terms of time, I think the dormant period from February to early March is good.
Not only does it put a load on the tree during the summer growing season, but it also removes the epidermis, which reduces protection against pests and can cause it to die at worst.
I hear that some people use not only cutlery but also chemicals to skeletonize, but I have never been there and I cannot recommend it.
As a caveat, artificially made gin and sushi rice (especially when using power tools) often feel artificial in appearance. It’s a burdensome work on the tree, so I don’t think it’s necessary to stick to making gin and sushi rice just because it’s jade.
After a long period of bending with a wire, it may naturally become a part of the building. It may be said that the wire hook is also artificial, but I personally like the natural gin and sushi rice.
Jade bud picking
It is necessary to pick buds diligently so as not to disturb the tree shape of Jade.
Taking advantage of its characteristics, the protruding buds are picked by hand so that the shape of the leaves is rounded.

Pruning of Jade
Pruning work is required because the shape of the branches and stems does not change just by picking buds.
Jade pruning time
Pruning of jade bonsai is best during the dormant period from February to early March.
In particular, heavy pruning that changes the shape of the tree puts a heavy burden on the tree, so do it during the dormant period.
Water a lot, especially in the summer, so that the water does not run out. Make sure that the water flows out from the bottom of the pot.
The number of times is once every two days from December to February, once every day from March to April, twice a day from May to September (morning and evening), once a day from October to November, but the temperature, If the soil surface is dry due to the weather, water it.
The guideline for replanting is once every two years.
If water does not flow from the bottom of the pot when watering, it is evidence that the roots are clogged. Replant regardless of the frequency above to prevent root rot.
I think that the soil used for replanting should be a mixture of Akadama soil and sand, and drainage is also good.
Since the climate varies from region to region, it is necessary to adjust the mixing ratio, but if you are in a region with low rainfall or if you do not have much time for watering, increase the proportion of well-watered Akadama soil by more than half.
Since the tree is not so damaged by diseases and pests, there is no special treatment and it is done regularly according to the disinfection of other bonsai.
Regarding fertilizer, fertilizer is installed during the growing season of young trees (summer), but there is no particular problem even if fertilizer is not applied. However, if you want to accelerate your growth, use it.
